What does it mean to be human?

by Captain Walker

Categories: Humanities, Psychology & Philosophy

This is not an easy issue to address. It must be about the balance of human strengths and weaknesses. The mindmaps below represent a few months of thinking in the background, based on years of experience. They are not meant to be exhaustive.

Mindmaps may be updated at any time.  Where ideas are borrowed or modified from other sources, these are declared. This is not professional advice, opinion or a lecture. I do not express an opinion on whether humanity is weak or strong. The mindmaps are for those who may wish to engage in deeper thought. Those do not wish to think more deeply are free to do so – as they know – but I still need to say it to avoid unspecified potential difficulties that could arise. Mind the fat disclaimer below!

For the avoidance of doubt, I do not require:

  • Any audience.
  • Advice, support or counselling.
  • Acknowledgements, pats on the back or other forms of praise or thanks.
  • Feedback or contact from/with anyone.
  • Opinions on my personality or functioning.

The above points are not exhaustive – and have become necessary as an adaptation to the mindlessness of a minority of people. I publish on this site irrespective of any ideas implied or inferred by others.

Some people only remember a headline that went like, Lord Sumption tells stage 4 cancer patient her life is ‘less valuable’ – which was spread across several tabloid and broadsheets. The woman with ... Read more

Where is fact in relation to position?

Again this exploration is motivated by what I see on social media platforms. I often read or hear, “The fact is… (blah blah)..”. But what does that mean? What does fact mean? What do people mean when they refer to ‘fact‘? Of course I’ve not been able to directly quiz those who assert their ‘facts‘. ... Read more

Contacts lists

A conversation yesterday 26th June 2021, got me thinking about this. By coincidence, I was in the process of weeding out junk-contacts from my contacts list. Someone – Person X –  asked me for contact details for an accountant which I had passed to them a few months ago. Why? Because a) they can’t find ... Read more
