How difficult is a straight answer.

The following is a conversation with someone online. At the heart of this is that I only need a simple yes or no answer to very straight forward question.

I felt like Jeremy Paxman

The question is: “Is TxxxRxxx regulated by a financial authority of some sort?”

As you will see below I had to pull teeth to get an answer – and yet I got no direct answer to the direct question.

I had to ask a different question to get to the ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ position.  The different question was ‘Would you disagree… ‘ [Read it all now].

You are now chatting with 'Tiffany'

Tiffany: Welcome to TxxxRxxx Live Chat! My name is Tiffany.  How may I assist you today?

Me: Hi... I'm wondering if it's possible to get a demo account to see how TxxxRxxx works? :)

Tiffany: Hello, how are you today?

Tiffany: I am not able to offer a demo account, however under special circumstances account managers are able to offer demo accounts.

Tiffany: Would you like me to request a call from a qualified account manager, so that he can explain all the benefits and training programs that you can take advantage of?

Me: Is TxxxRxxx regulated by a financial authority of some sort?

Tiffany: We are currently in the process of pursuing regulation in the European Union as well as other jurisdictions.

Me: So that means that at this time TxxxRxxx is not regulated by a financial authority or watchdog

Tiffany: We are still in the process.

Me: Which means that if the process is not complete TxxxRxxx is at this time not financially regulated.

Tiffany: At the moment, our company is still in the process of being regulated.

Me: Can you agree that if it is still in the process of being regulated that it means you are not at this time regulated?

Tiffany: Not yet because we are still in the process.

Me: Amusing.. your avoidance of a simple yes or no answer.

Me: the fact is that TxxxRxxx is not regulated at this time.

Me: Do you disagree with the last statement?

Me: The question is 'do you disagree'.. seems like a yes or no to me

Tiffany: As I mentioned earlier, we are not regulated yet, but we are in the process of being regulated.

Me: Yes you did.

Me: you see I can say 'yes'.. but you clearly avoid the yes or no answer as is evident above.

Me: Would you disagree with the statement that 'TxxxRxxx is at this time not financially regulated.'

Me: I'm trying again for the yes or no answer

Tiffany: I don't disagree with your statement. So the answer would be no.

Me: Finally.. thank you .. that's all I wanted to clarify.. no other assistance required.. thank you for your time.

I should actually have said “Thank you for wasting my time.. you plonker!” – I’m too polite, innit?
