As I continue my sojourn through life, I discover so much that I did not know or appreciate. There are not enough hours in my day. I’ve cut back on sleep as much as I can.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so serious, that human stupidity accounts for so many serious disasters, yet it is hardly studied compared to quantum physics for example.
This is no book review. I came across Boxsel’s book – trying to find out what exactly is stupidity. But then having come across many works – most of them from decades ago – I realised that it is not possible to find out ‘exactly‘ what it is. How?
The prime directive on stupidity is: “Stupidity knows no limits“. It is therefore not possible to know this thing with the utmost of precision or its full extent.
I’ve read parts of Boxel’s book online scanned into electronic versions. Just to be clear, I’m not saying it is the best thing since sliced bread. It was insightful enough for me to purchase a good-condition used paperback copy via Amazon for a fiver.
Below are some quotations and excerpts from Boxel’s book.
The following is an excerpt from Ian Leslie’s blog (full credits to him).
And to round off I close with the following quotation. [The impish one has been kept out!]
The reading of posts on this blog is subject to the Terms & Conditions. Unpalatable truths and personal experiences may be told. Nothing posted on this blog is directed at any identified person. On occasions individuals are quoted anonymously. That does not mean that they have been identified to the world. Should any person or organisation reading this blog find something that makes them feel or know that they are being referred to - any such perceived identification does not mean 'identified to the world'. ‘Stupid' is an impish figment of my imagination who occasionally is allowed to pop up – and does not represent any known individual or individuals. ‘Stupid' carries the characteristics groups of people with 'social media mindsets'. The treatment of 'Stupid' is not representative of the way people are treated in real life. Adverse inferences made are dismissed in advance.
