The Encyclopaedia of Stupidity

As I continue my sojourn through life, I discover so much that I did not know or appreciate. There are not enough hours in my day. I’ve cut back on sleep as much as I can.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so serious, that human stupidity accounts for so many serious disasters, yet it is hardly studied compared to quantum physics for example.

This is no book review. I came across Boxsel’s book – trying to find out what exactly is stupidity. But then having come across many works – most of them from decades ago – I realised that it is not possible to find out ‘exactly‘ what it is. How?

The prime directive on stupidity is: “Stupidity knows no limits“. It is therefore not possible to know this thing with the utmost of precision or its full extent.

I’ve read parts of Boxel’s book online scanned into electronic versions. Just to be clear, I’m not saying it is the best thing since sliced bread. It was insightful enough for me to purchase a good-condition used paperback copy via Amazon for a fiver.

Below are some quotations and excerpts from Boxel’s book.

The following is an excerpt from Ian Leslie’s blog (full credits to him).

And to round off I close with the following quotation. [The impish one has been kept out!]

Should any person or organisation reading this blog find something that makes them feel or know that they  are being referred to - any such perceived identification does not mean 'identified to the world'. ‘Stupid' is an impish figment of my imagination who occasionally is allowed to pop up – and does not represent any known individual or individuals. ‘Stupid'  carries the characteristics groups of people with 'social media mindsets'. The treatment of  'Stupid' is not representative of the way people are treated in real life. Adverse inferences made are dismissed in advance.

The Orville – comedy or parody – worth watching

The Orville is the latest version of Star Trek. But it is not like any other Star Trek. This has comedy and parody in it. It is weird and whacky. The first season starts off with an adultery scene, which gets your curiosity up! ?? That colours many things that happen later in the series. ... Read more

Scotty – why am I still here!

No – you don’t need to know all the details. I became concerned that maybe – just maybe it was possible for someone else to be me. So, I had to double check and think about it. The following is from a forum where I sought an opinion (not advice).

The humans again!

I continue to despair for the human race. They seem incapable of distinguishing what is fact from what is inference. Yes – of course that is a generalisation. I can’t deal with each human  – some 6 Billion of them! Get real. If Joe says that Jane says – does it mean that Jane said ... Read more

There are times of course when I cannot punish idiots. On occasion an idiot may punish himself – and not even know it. It is not as good as actually dishing out the punishment, but sometimes you settle for second best. Case in question? Sure. Person calls a mobile phone from overseas weekly for about ... Read more
