The internet has revolutionised the way we communicate, access information, and form communities. However, this technological advancement has also brought about unintended consequences. Over the past decade, there has been a growing concern about the rise of online tribalism, political correctness, cancel culture, and the suppression of dissenting voices. These phenomena, while seemingly disparate, are ...
Well, I’m on a roll from the last post on eggs in the microwave. I had mentioned that boiling rice or anything on a stove is not very energy efficient. What a surprise I had! This exploration actually ended up showing that a gas hob uses approximately 2.55 times more actual energy but still cheaper, ...
I pointed out my evidence for concern about the reading ability of ‘some’ UK doctors at 16/07/2024 in Reading ability of UK doctors could be stuck at UK Year 9. As ‘some’ will be aware, I like to have evidence – when I can find it – to support what am saying. And – I ...
In September 1990, Marilyn vos Savant, known for her “Ask Marilyn” column in Parade magazine and her record-high IQ, received an intriguing question from reader Craig F. Whitaker about the now-famous Monty Hall problem. The problem The question was something like: Suppose you’re on a game show, and you’re given the choice of three doors: ...
In our quest to make the most of our personal time, we often find ourselves gravitating towards activities that bring us pleasure, satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. Whether it’s indulging in leisure pursuits, exploring creative outlets, or engaging in community service, the ways we choose to spend our free time are deeply intertwined with ...
Well, I do spend time on forums as some know to wrestle with parts of human nature that some totally avoid. Today I am led to infer that the reading ability of doctors in some significant proportion could be stuck at around UK year 9, based on the captioned encounter below. This post is not ...
This bias is quite common. Have you ever been in a conversation where you make a thoughtful point, only to have the other person latch onto a single word or phrase and totally miss your intended meaning? This common phenomenon is known as focalism bias, and it can lead to frustrating misunderstandings and derailed discussions. ...

In 2013 I wrote on ‘What is Critical Thinking?‘. Time does fly. That post was 10 years ago. From then I’ve continued to read up and expand my knowledge. My interactions on various forums has led me to a view that most people ‘out there’ demonstrate little if any of critical thinking mindsets. I decided ...
Apparently – everybody believes they know all about leadership and management. This morning I encountered some fool on a forum going, “How strange. What does “power” and “authority” have to do with effective leadership and management? If you think that is how you get a team to deliver the goods when the individuals in it ...
This is a follow up to Guilty by reason of sanity: the ultimate insanity in Sept 2022. The book has taken a lot of effort. The book cover and title are copyrighted. No other book exists by that exact title. It’s not easy to dig back into memories – many quite traumatic. There will be ...
I have written much on predictions before. The following equation appeared in a different format in The arrogance of mathematics and Chaos Theory. I haven’t changed the content of it; only the layout. I’ll explain in a while. There are major problems with predictions. The first big one is that all predictions depend on ‘the ...
